We currently seek a Project Engineer with an emphasis on building HVAC and utility plant controls to support the development and implementation of energy savings performance contracting projects, new technology applications, and renewable energy initiatives.
Survey and analyze existing standalone and networked facility control systems to identify:
Support energy analysis by configuring and retrieving historical baseline operating data regarding controlled mechanical energy consuming or distributing systems, and validating accuracy of same.
Prepare bid and construction scope narratives, drawings, specifications in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of customer site programs and projects in accordance with energy savings performance contract requirements.
Review shop drawings and vendor sequences and programming for conformance with project requirements.
Coordinate with vendors and installation contractors for feasibility and pricing verification of proposed project modifications.
Provide engineering guidance throughout project development, construction, project commissioning, and operations.
Distribute useful knowledge regarding trends and best practices regarding control system analysis to peers of varying experience through formal training events as well as regular informal collaboration.
Support the inclusion of measurement and verification (M&V) features in controls scopes where appropriate to automate M&V tasks consistent with contract requirements.
Cultivate and maintain effective business relationships at all levels and project phases.
Manage project expenditures and job cost accounting: including documentation, approvals, tracking, and reporting.
Compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum 6 years’ control system analysis and design engineering experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Control system experience shall include a wide spectrum of controlled equipment including DX and chilled water cooling systems, hydronic and steam boiler systems, domestic hot water systems, heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment (e.g. air handlers, terminal units, packaged and split systems).
Fluency in operational characteristics of typical building energy systems (e.g. chillers, cooling towers and DX cooling systems, hydronic and steam boilers and gas heating systems, major air handling systems and terminal devices, pumping equipment and associated distribution controls.
Proficiency in energy-conserving and cost-reducing control schemes including temperature and pressure resets, variable flow air and water system control, scheduling, demand controlled ventilation and economizer controls.
Proficiency with serial and packet networked systems, and Federal network security and information assurance protocols. (for example, RMP).
Familiarity with common Federal Agency specifications and requirements for HVAC control systems, including requirements from DOD – all services, DOE, BOP, GSA, DOI.
Familiarity with current and legacy control systems from major vendors including but not limited to JCI, TAC/Schneider, Siemens, Honeywell, Distech, Automated Logic.
Proficiency Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Strong verbal, written, computer communication and technical presentation skills.
U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.
Background check will be required.
Valid Drivers’ License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
Travel required (25-35% outside of home office region, depending on location.)
Familiarity with Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) contract requirements and workflow.
Competency with AutoCAD.
Competency with hourly building energy modeling software (e.g. eQuest, Trace)
