Ameresco currently has a new opportunity based in Phoenix, AZ for a Pre-Construction Project Manager in the Renewable Energy segment. We are looking for talented team players with initiative, drive, creativity and vision. In addition, we are seeking individuals who are critical thinkers, possess the drive to achieve quick results with accountability, and have experience working in a fast pace environment with multiple project responsibilities running concurrently. Ideal candidates will have a passion for the solar industry, experience managing people, and direct P&L experience of solar and energy storage construction projects of at least $1M or greater.

 

This position primarily supports the technical development process and eventual transition of development to construction management professionals that will build the project. The development process includes initial site feasibility, site visits, subcontractor coordination/selection/pricing, schedule development, scope of work development, safety plan development, permitting, planning & zoning, and constructability. Projects will be typically solar photovoltaic commercial scale ranging from 100kW to 5MW at a single site. Some energy storage or energy savings retrofit constructability support may be required.

 

While this position supports most of the United States in geography, this position is not a field construction management position and is located in the Phoenix office where the position will spend 70%+ of their time. This position is an individual contributor (no direct reports) position, but the position does manage the pre-construction process for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

Develop the initial project scope, preliminary schedule, and portions or all of construction budget for renewable energy projects.

Coordinate with the project engineering and development team, host customer, subcontractors, design engineers, state & local permitting authorities, local utilities, and construction management team bridging project development and construction execution activities.

Conduct site audits to collect required as-built infrastructure data, physical and shade surveys, conceptual design input; validation of preliminary design & physical layout with an emphasis on constructability issues; coordination of environmental surveys, title reports, & soils testing; development of subcontractor scopes of work.

Source and qualifying new subcontractors for implementation of projects and construction services in various markets across the U.S. as determined by project location.

Assist in the development of technical RFP/RFQ proposals including technical writing, customer meetings, and oral presentations.

Provide daily administrative and technical management of renewable construction projects delivering energy savings for public, institutional, industrial, government, and commercial customers.

Knowledge of full project accounting, project schedule and tracking, reporting, quality management and internal communication is important.

Support full project budget, project schedule, and develop/articulate scope of work to subcontracting community. Demonstrate knowledge/compliance with the Company’s financial policies and procedures to include revenue recognition policies and project set up rules. Serve as a liaison between the development team and construction team.

Occasional interface with Ameresco customers managing relationships, contracts, and customer satisfaction. Demonstrate professional demeanor, and communication skills as a representative of Ameresco.

Regularly monitor and track assigned project performance and cost estimates to improve pre-construction process and results on future projects.

During development before handoff, manage vendors, subcontractors, and construction managers (site superintendents) to ensure quality control and project delivery on time and within budget, while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.

Schedule management; update draft schedules to reflect current information, monitor critical path activities, and track outstanding items. Work with construction team to validate assumptions, transfer ownership and accountability of schedule as project transitions to construction.

Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.

Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 8+ years electrical, mechanical, engineering, or industrial power construction project management work experience focusing on complex facility infrastructure construction, renovations, retrofits, upgrades, building controls and automation, energy services, and renewable technology.

Technical Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management or related field.

 

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED:

Direct P&L responsibility for Solar, Renewable Energy or Power Generation projects from $1M - $25M.

Experience in a previous Pre-Construction role a plus.

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and foster positive business relationships.

Proven experience with OSHA safety standards, mechanical and electrical systems development, engineering, and project management regulations, practices, and codes.

Experience managing people.

Strong verbal, written, computer, technical communication and presentation skills.

Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Project.

Valid Drivers’ License in good standing, issued by resident state.

May be required to pass security clearance investigation.

May require occasional on-call response and travel.
