New opportunity for a Sr. Project Development Engineer (SPDE) based in Phoenix, AZ to partner with our Southwest Regional Team to lead the technical development, design, and engineering process for commercial scale Solar PV photovoltaic projects across the United States. Some occasional exposure to energy storage and energy efficiency technologies should be expected. The position will gain engineering exposure from development and follow assigned projects through construction. The position supports distributed generation site level projects on existing roofs, in parking lots, and ground mount applications for public entities ranging in typical size from 100kW to 5MW.

This role includes responsibility for quality control and review over technical diligence deliverables for assigned projects.  The position is an individual contributor role, responsible for both personally working on and also working with internal and external engineering resources associated with designated led projects. This role is fast paced, challenging, and requires both technical and soft skills.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations.

Responsibility for conceptual and final construction project budgets, perform rate analysis and policy research, design conceptual and final system plans in compliance with local IBC/NEC/IFC codes.

Provide RFI support through construction, ensuring projects are built in compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.

Coordinate and deploy Pre-Construction Project Managers individuals to administer site walks, field data collection, contractor bids, and pre-development support associated with designated led projects.

Develop and coordinate all equipment procurement associated with designated led projects (pricing, terms & conditions, delivery & storage, purchase orders) with Construction Project Management associated with designated led projects.

Interface with other departments, management, and non-technical staff to collaborate technical diligence with a business solution in mind.

 Ensure successful project implementation that meets or exceeds company objectives, financial parameters, and technical needs required to deliver customer energy cost savings.

Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships.

Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MS/BS degree in a technical field. Typical candidates include: Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Construction/Other Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience acting in Solar PV commercial development or a generally related construction development process including: project development, engineering, construction of energy generation projects, power purchase agreements, performance contracting, and financial analysis of energy generation projects.

 

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED:

Professional Certifications and/or advanced degree viewed as favorable for position requirements (EIT, PE, NABCEP, CEM, MBA)

Demonstrated skills in priority organization, technical writing, detail-oriented approach, with ability to produce big picture results in a fast-paced business environment. 

Demonstrated ability to interact and work with multi-functional teams including: sales, customers, equipment vendors, multi discipline engineers, and utilities. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, entrepreneurial spirit, great team player, solutions minded

Advanced Proficiency in learning software applications (in order of importance). Microsoft Excel, PV Syst, SAM, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Helioscope, Energy Toolbase. Understanding of NEC, IBC, IFC applicable codes pertaining to commercial Solar PV.

Demonstrated ability to correctly solve complex problems and issues without regular supervision.

Demonstrated experience managing internal and/or external resources.

Demonstrated experience working in complex jurisdictional or utility environments. Experience working through commercial solar PV utility interconnection.

Demonstrated experience in electrical and racking/structural systems for solar PV commercial systems.

Experience working in EPC (engineer, procure, construct), or PPA (power purchase agreement) environment a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, entrepreneurial spirit, great team player, solutions minded

Demonstrated interest in continuous lifelong learning

Comfortable acting as technical subject matter expert

Ability to provide technical support, analysis, and demonstrate technical expertise, providing guidance to junior engineering team members

Enjoys mentoring and working collaboratively with junior engineering team members

Valid Drivers License in good standing, issued by resident state required.

May be required to pass security clearance investigation.

 <10% Travel may be required for occasional site visits, client meetings, etc.
